Product Details
‘Boggle Eyed Joyce’, eyes twisted around and around as a reference to his many eye surgeries and bottle glasses. This portrait of a statue/bust of head and shoulders with a shirt and tie has a reference from his statue in St. Stephens’ Green. It is painted in very colourful greens, oranges, blues, reds and a spot of pink.
With the front cover of Time magazine James Joyce dated May 8th 1939 by Gisele Freund, we see a 57-year-old Joyce wearing strong glasses looking through a magnifying glass just so he could read it must have been frustrating, exhausting and overwhelming for him to be losing his eyesight, having such trouble in trying to do the one truly joyful thing he must have loved reading. So I played around with the painting of his eyes, making them strange and hopefully wonderful.
